Patrick O’Donoghue is a resident of Northfield, a small town in northeastern Cook County, since 2003 and first moved to Cook County in 1987. He graduated Loyola Academy College Preparatory and DePaul University with a BA in Philosophy. He has been a Community volunteer in Boy Scouts, Student Government, Church, Local Government, Boards and Caucuses, the Republican Party and many political campaigns.
Patrick has worked with all levels of government in the past twelve years. He has interacted with State, Federal, Municipal, County and Township Government through his work. His work experience includes many public works related activities, administration and project management of municipal construction projects. His diverse work experience gives him hands-on knowledge of the practical effect of policy decisions from inception to completion.
Patrick believes local government is best positioned to help people because that level of government more directly relates with the people served. Furthermore, a person can more easily choose to reside where the government best suits their philosophy. The larger the territory covered by a governmental unit, the more intrusive a single policy can become to the individual because it is harder to move to another district with a different policy. Because policies of the county affect the liberty of individuals and local governments, it is important for county officials to be mindful of this fact.
